Save Money on Food – 4 Easy Ways to Cut Back on Your Food Expenses

Want to save money on food? There’s a lot of little things you can do, but here are some of the best ways to keep more money in your pocket.

1) Don’t Eat Out

This is by FAR the best way to save money on food. One meal out with a family of 4 can easily be over $50, but done right you can eat food from the store for a week on that!

Even eating out at fast food places adds up fast. If you get a $5 lunch every week day, you’re spending $5 x 5 days x 50 weeks = $1,250 a year. Wow.

2) Buy the Store Brand

Depending on what you are purchasing, this is another great way to save money on food. I’m not saying you need to buy the bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, but maybe aim for the second cheapest. This is especially great to save lots of money on drugs, milk, snacks, or meat.

3) Join a Warehouse Club Membership

We all know that buying in bulk can save money on groceries. Yet a lot of people don’t do it! Although there is an upfront cost, you can probably make that up within your first month at the club. Two of the biggest chains are Sams Club and Costco, but there are others out there too that I’m sure are pretty good.

4) Make a Shopping List

This sounds kinda silly, but its a great way to save money on food. Each year millions of dollars worth of food is tossed, because it just isn’t wanted or spoils before it can be eaten.

Don’t be a part of that crowd! Only buy what you need, which is all on your shopping list.
